PORTRAIT
It's recommended you include a portrait on your portfolio site. I'm
all for it, but if you happen to have an ugly mug, instead consider using an interesting graphic, an artsy sketch of yourself or perhaps use a prop to cover the specific parts of your face that are generally considered “hard-to-look-at”. Maybe an eye patch would do the trick. Or you can use photoshop to fix the blemishes, but who would do such a thing? It's just wrong!
And then there's the work. Show it right away. There's no way around it.
Try to avoid showing old work just to fill space or for sentimental
reasons (like I've done in 10, 11 and 12).
Inner Abe is a Facebook application for a non-profit organization called Not For Sale. I provided design, programming and testing.
This is a touch-screen kiosk I designed and programmed for a Las Vegas convention.
Hito is a design company in Minneapolis. I completely designed and programmed their site since I did it free of charge for my portfolio.
This is an email blast I developed for Marvin windows. It features the infamous Carl & Stu characters.
This is another e-newsletter for Marvin Integrity windows that I designed & programmed.
This is a quiz game for Pfizer Animal Health used to assist farmers in choosing healthy pigs. My roles were design and programming.
This e-newsletter is for Syngenta, an agriculture company. I was the designer and programmer.
This is a page take-over banner for Syngenta weed treatment. I provided design and development.
CB Rider is a blog dedicated to the iconic Honda CB series of motorcycles. It's a custom Wordpress site that I designed & programmed.
This is another site I designed and developed for a Minneapolis designer. I based the design on the company's unique, letterpress cards.
This is an email newsletter I designed and programmed for Worrell.
This is some of the fun, award-winning work I did while I was in school.
It's good to write some sort of bio despite the fact that most people will never read it.
But just in case they do, be sure not to nauseate your reader with the the cutesy, obvious garbage.
“My favorite color is purple, I'm a gemini, my favorite online game is W.O.W., etcetera.” Save all that bullshit for Twitter.
USEFUL SHIT
I graduated from The University of Colorado at Boulder with a B.S. in advertising, and I attended
Miami Ad School in the art direction portfolio program. I've been involved with the advertising
industry in some form for nearly six years, working with large agencies, small shops and private
clients.
I got into advertising for the chance it gives me to come up with cool ideas. I love
interactive specifically for the opportunity it gives me to make cool ideas come to life.
For more details download my CV or visit my LinkedIn profile. And be sure to read the amazing props I've been given by industry leaders and friends I threatened.
Infographics are badass right now... use ‘em.
CUTESY SHIT
Simply put, Pinwheel is the greatest kid's show of all time. A stiff breeze means only one thing: kite flying time. My i.q. is high enough that I can solve a Rubik's Cube, but not so high you have to worry I'll mastermind a casino robbery. I have a tattoo designed by House Industries' director of typography, Ken Barber. And it's bitchin'! I'll show you when we hang out.
I think it's good advice to claim only the skills you actually possess.
I'm proud and maybe a little ashamed I can
do all of these things.
